Description of Presentation

Document management is a moving target. Systems planned today will look quite different when they are fully implemented in five years. Document management can be linked with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and CAD (Computer Aided Design). These links will evolve over time. Accessing the information over the internet requires more than collecting and integrating the documents in a server. The eventual goal is a single electronic system, not two systems, one for paper and one for digital information. In addition to increased efficiency, electronic document management will protect the environment. Every box of copy paper represents one half of a pulp wood tree, thousands of gallons of water, the fuel used to transport the paper, and the environmental impact of the office space required to store it and provide access to it. This presentation looks into the future of document management so that systems being planned today can better accommodate the developments that are sure to occur during life-cycle of those systems.
